Polish for Teens: Beyond the Kitchen Table

By this level, most heritage teens have real confidence with spoken Polish — they understand almost everything and can hold a conversation at home without a second thought. What's usually behind that: grammar accuracy that hasn't caught up, especially the case system and verb aspect, and reading/writing skills that lag further still, particularly anything formal or academic. This course doesn't start from scratch — it builds on the fluency your teen already has, while deliberately closing those specific gaps.

Ten weeks move from the everyday — school, family, food, travel, hobbies — into territory heritage speakers rarely get exposed to at home: forming and defending an opinion, reading an adapted text on Polish history or tradition, and writing something formal, like an email to a teacher or relative. Grammar builds one case at a time (genitive, locative, accusative, dative) instead of all at once, and speaking, listening, reading, and writing all move together throughout — no single skill left to catch up on its own.

Each 50-minute class opens with new language and a grammar point, works it through structured practice, then puts it to real use — a role play, a short discussion, a piece of writing. Homework stays light, 10–15 minutes a week. The course ends with each student giving a short presentation on a topic of their choice, a group reflection on how far they've come since week one, and a certificate to mark it.

  • Target Age Group: Ages 11–15 (Other age groups available)
  • Skill Level: Advanced (B1 - Conversational Polish already in place; refining fluency, accuracy, and vocabulary)
  • Homework: Light, 10–15 min/week
  • Program Duration: 10 Weeks (October 13 – December 15)
  • Live Class Schedule: Tuesdays (Other days available) GMT +11 | Sydney 6:00 PM | Perth 3:00 PM | Warsaw: 9:00 AM (Oct 13–20) · 8:00 AM (Oct 27 onward)

At the end of this course, the student should be able to: describe their daily routine and school life, talk about family using more accurate case constructions, talk about hobbies and past weekend plans, describe a place they've visited and give directions, discuss food and read a simple recipe or menu, share and support a personal opinion, read and discuss a short authentic Polish text, and write a short formal email or message.

*Note:

Child must be able to read, write and communicate in English.

Classes are non-transferable.

Lesson Structure

Balanced growth across speaking, listening, reading, and writing — not just conversation practice. Typical 50-minute lesson shape:

5 min: warm-up (quick review, greeting)
15 min: new language + grammar point introduced through discussion or text, not drills
15 min: structured practice — pair/small group activity tied to the week's grammar and topic
10 min: production task — a role play, discussion, or short piece of writing
5 min: wrap-up + light homework (10–15 min/week)
